There aren't many housing situations at Brown that can offer a fully-furnished pick-up truck bed, a working hovercraft, and a working vintage arcade game. And we're pretty sure that if you searched the world over, you wouldn't find many places where students with as disparate interests as art, monkeys, and electrical engineering can live in harmony. Fortunately, there is at least one such place. Welcome to Technology House. Five years ago two Brown undergrads founded Tech House on the principle that students who are enthusiastic about science and technology ought to have a program house that encourages and supports that enthusiasm. Over time, Tech House has evolved from being a haven for a handful of hackers to a dynamic house with members whose interests run the full range of the academic and extracurricular spectra. Contrary to popular belief, Tech House is home to many people who aren't CS and engineering concentrators. Our members study biology, physics, art, geology, philosophy, Russian literature, neuroscience, math, and "fun" (yes, that is a genuine independent concentration). We've even heard rumors that there is a classicist or two roaming the halls, but the stories haven't yet been confirmed. Our projects, the focal point of the Tech House experience, reflect this variety. We provide money, support, guidance, and manpower for the ideas that our members come up with. In the realm of Tech House projects, there are no schemes too wild for consideration. If you're interested in joining Tech House, or want to learn more about us, email techhouse@brown.edu and we'll get back to you. Site last modified 3/12/00 |
