Bob’s words from the 1998 graduation CD he produced for us:
Hey guys, it’s Bob. If you’re listening to this, you’re either bored, or you need to reminisce. I know that when I felt alone these past few years, and especially this year, what’s pulled me through it has been you. You’re a powerful group of people—powerful in thought, powerful in passion, and I can say with all my confidence that you are powerful in character, now and always. When I feel down, I try to remember what’s made me happy…and so what I remember is you. Please remember me as well.
Life is going to bring each of us something very different and maybe some things unexpected. Although it’s difficult for me to say right now, each time you listen to this, it will be further from today. While goodbye definitely feels premature, in the grand scheme of things, this is the end of high school. It’s a point of closure, and that’s a goodbye. I find comfort in what I have today, but I know that even just a few weeks from now, things are going to be different. But I hope that time doesn’t take things away. 1998 will be in each of us a memory, and although it may fade in intensity, I hope you can always find it somewhere.
Each of you has helped me to learn what it means to love and to be loved. I don’t think there’s a better gift anyone could have given me. You are why I wake up in the morning and you’re the last one on my mind as I go to sleep. You will always be mine and I will always be yours.
Four years ago, I came to Lawrenceville to learn and to grow…and I know that I’ve done both, and I know who’s helped me do it. More than the campus and the classrooms and the teachers and the coaches, those who have helped teach me have been you. I’m not really sure who I am yet and I certainly don’t know who I’m going to be, but I do know that whoever that is, you’ve had an impact. A section of each of your hearts is mine, and for that, I love you. Take care.
