LUNAR: Armageddon
Time Line

• 2005: Present
• 2008: Wild Arms: Alter Code F is released in English.
• 2172: Faster-than-light radio invented. This paves the way for faster-than-light space travel.
• 2199: Hyperdrive invented. Humanity has acquired its first faster-than-light space travel. Early tests are done with robot spacecraft.
• 2206: First signs of alien civilizations discovered – however the civilization is in ruins.
• 2209: After several more dead civilizations are found, the first human space exploration vessel, the Enterprise, is dispatched on a scientific mission to explore them.
• 2215: The International Space Agency is established under the United Nations to be a coordinated space exploration and defense agency as Earth fears that there may have been an external reason to the destruction of every other civilization they have encountered.
• 2329: Milky Way Galaxy mapping project complete. All stars and star systems in the galaxy are documented, though only a handful have been explored in detail.
• 2376: Several colony ships are launched in an attempt to re-colonize some of the abandoned alien planets. All are lost.
• 2401: Due to the loss of all the colony ships, the U.N. becomes a federation of states in order to better combat potential alien threats. While the individual member nations still manage all internal affairs, all global and extraterrestrial matters are handled by the U.N. The International Space Agency becomes the United Nations Space Navy (or “U.N. Spacy” as it’s popularly known).
• 2509: First-generation intergalactic hyperdrive invented. Robot probes, followed by manned ships begin exploring the Magellanic Clouds.
• 2659: Second-generation intergalactic hyperdrive invented. This allows travel to nearly every galaxy in the Milky Way’s local group.
• 2662: Robot probes dispatched to the Andromeda Galaxy.
• 2712: UNS Noah is sent to explore the Andromeda Galaxy. It is the first manned spacecraft to explore a galaxy other than the Milky Way or Magellanic Clouds. Contact is lost one week after it enters Andromeda.
  • Fun fact: Noah is the name of the ship carrying the Earthmen in Phantasy Star II, which takes place in the Algol Star System in the Andromeda Galaxy…
• 2713: Microsoft releases a secure version of Windows.
• 2783: UNS Pandora is sent to explore the Triangulum Galaxy.
• 2797: UNS Pandora returns from Triangulum. On board is a power source they discovered and named the Turiacus Generator, after the ancient Lusitanian god of power. For lack of a better name, the transmission medium for this power is called the “ether.”
• 2856: An global system of relays, called the Pharos Network, is established to provide the limitless power of the Turiacus Generator to Earth.
• 2887: Humans learn to tap into the “ether” directly to produce magic-like effects.
• 2901: An order of elite, enhanced humans called the Turiacus Knights is established as an international police force to protect the Turiacus Generator and Pharos Network. These people have ether abilities typically not available to the general population.
• 2921: Wars break out around the Earth over who controls the Pharos Network. The Turiacus Knights go into action as the most elite defenders of the network.
• 2934: Strange mutated monstrous creatures start appearing around the world. No one knows the cause of these mutations – however it proves to be yet another threat to peace and stability. Bounty hunters, adventure-seekers, the military, and Turiacus Knights take it upon themselves to defend the general population from these monsters.
• 3005: LUNAR: Armageddon begins…

In case you’re wondering, there really is a Triangulum Galaxy (look it up). I chose it because it is one of the Milky Way’s closest neighbor galaxies and because Andromeda, another nearby neighbor, was already used both by me in ASF1 and (originally) by Phantasy Star. It’s also the next closest major galaxy to the Milky Way after Andromeda.
