Ashmodeel

Ashmodeel

Ashmodeel, a young man of 25, stands at 6'3" which is rather tall for the mages of Savanti. He keeps his blue-gray hair rather short. However, people never seem to notice his height or hair when they see Ashmodeel. Its his eyes that stand out the most. Ashmodeel has thin, slightly slanted eyes that many say give his face a rather sinister look. And that is not the only abnormal thing about his appearence. Instead of the usual elaborate robes that most of the mages wear, Ashmodeel wears a simple gray cape, but under the cape, he wears a suit that is half black and half white. Many people take a while to get used to his appearence.

People should pay heed to the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover" because Ashmodeel's sinister appearence does not reflect his personality, at least not wholly. Ashmodeel is a very cold and emotionless individual. He tends not to form relationships with people and so Ashmodeel has very few friends. The only people he shows any emotion to are his uncle and his parents and even then, its shown sparingly. When people ask why he surpresses his emotions, Ashmodeel only replies, "I have my reasons."

In most issues that are brought before him, Ashmodeel is usually in the right or has the right answer to the problem. He usually expresses his views or the answer in cold, matter-of-fact voice. Many of the higher class mages of Savanti mistake this for arrogance although Ashmodeel has no intention of showing arrogance. Still, many mages take it for arrogance and liken Ashmodeel to his uncle, Theran, who has a quiet arrogance about him.

Because of Ashmodeel's lack of emotion, Theran asked his nephew to become one of his advisors. Theran believed that Ashmodeel's emotionless nature would make him impartial to giving advice and that proved true. Unlike many of the other advisors that Theran has, Ashmodeel tells Theran exactly what is on his mind regardless of whether or not Theran will agree with it. Disagreements between the two have sparked those all to rare moments when Ashmodeel shows intense emotion, usually anger.

Ashmodeel calls the capital of Savanti, Kathmandu, home. His father is Denom, who is the commander of the small, yet powerful mage army of Savanti. His mother is Isis, the daughter of the High Mage Theran. As a child, Ashmodeel's family soon learned of his gift with the powers of light and darkness and they encouraged him to develop and use them.

As time went on, Ashmodeel's parents began to worry. Although his skill with techniques was very strong, Ashmodeel's use of True Magic had yet to show itself. It was not until his teenage years that his skill with True Magic began to show, but it was not any normal kind of True Magic. In fact, neither his parents nor his uncle had seen the type of magic Ashmodeel was using. It was characterized by grayish energy that came in different forms. Even more disturbing was the fact that every time Ashmodeel used this magic, he would be subject to violent mood swings. Whereas before Ashmodeel was a typical kid, now he would explode in anger or have bouts with depression.

Filled with concern for his son, Denom took Ashmodeel to Kefron, the mage who devoted himself to knowledge and history. Denom had hoped that Kefron would know what type of magic it was that Ashmodeel was using and why it was having such an effect on his son. After some research, Kefron discovered that Ashmodeel was wielding Grey Magic, a powerful yet dangerous magic to use. Grey Magic is a type of magic where the elements of light and darkness combine to form a force more powerful than either of the two alone. Although light and darkness are working together when Grey Magic is used, they also work against each other. The conflict between these two powers causes great strain on the minds of the wielders of Grey Magic. In fact, as Kefron discovered, Grey magic would eventually drive wielders insane. Ashmodeel would have lost it right there and then if Kefron hadn't said that there were ways to avoid the madness, at least for a while. The easiest and longest lasting way to avoid going insane was to be in control of one's emotions and to surpress them as often as one can. However, the longest this technique ever lasted was 9 years. Kefron sadly told Denom and Ashmodeel that he could not find a way to prevent the madness from eventually taking effect. Kefron voluteered to teach Ashmodeel how to control his emotions and for two years, Ashmodeel was apprenticed to Kefron.

When he was 17, Ashmodeel returned to his parents and uncle, and they noticed the change in him right away. Ashmodeel, as some said, had about as many emotions as a stone. Apart from Kefron and Denom, the only other person to know of Ashmodeel's "curse" was Theran. Denom kept the knowledge from Isis so that she wouldn't become stressed out with worry for her son.

Eight years have passed since Ashmodeel finished training with Kefron and he is beginning to feel his time run low. One day as he was going through the archives of the High Mage, he stumbled upon a book that looked like it had been collecting dust for centuries, if not longer. Much to his amazement, it was about the old order of Grey Wizards, those who could wield the Grey Magic. In it, he discovered that there was a way to avoid the madness but the only way to learn it was from another Grey wizard. According to the history of the wizards, the order slowly died out because children with the ability were no longer being born. The last five Grey Wizards decided to set sail for the legendary island of Gineyres to find out why there were no longer children being born with the ability to wield Grey Magic. The wizards were never heard from again and the knowledge of Grey Magic slowly disappeared from existence. It was with much joy and hope on his face, something which he had not allowed himself to feel for eight years, that Ashmodeel brought this news to his father and Theran. Now Ashmodeel is getting ready to make the trip to Iria Nation in hopes that the story that in the Iria archives is the location of Gineyres is true and that from there, he can sail to Gineyres. Ashmodeel hopes that some Grey Wizards still exist on Gineyres and that they can teach him how to avoid the madness that comes with Grey Magic.

Ashmodeel's main goal is simple, find a way to get to Gineyres and he is motivated by the hope that there are still Grey Wizards on the legendary island that can teach him to avoid from going insane. Ashmodeel hopes that if he does find the island and a Grey Wizard, that upon returning to Savanti, he can reestablish the order of Grey Wizards.

Update (As of Session 9):
Ashmodeel is apparently destined to be the pilot of Alseides, the Espermech of Magic.
