The Technomages are a seclusive group that roam the world of Mirzha in search of ancient Esper technology. Their name comes from their trait of using both ancient technology as well as technology of their own creation to simulate magic. This has resulted in a rivalry and distrust of sorts between Technomages and the wizards of Savanti.
The Technomage capital is the city of Torvalds, whose location is unknown. However, Technomage machines are sometimes seen across the land. Technomages have successfully built flying machines which they use in their quest for Esper relics.
Technomages go by the belief that "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." This is partly because they often lack the ability to use true magical skills themselves. However, this has proven to be moot in various skirmishes between Technomages and other peoples of Mirzha. Technomage technology seems to make up for lack of magical ability quite easily. Fortunately, they are a peaceful people and only fight when provoked.
Even though Technomages are not "wizards" in the classical sense, they refer to and carry themselves as such. Technomages usually wear black hooded cloaks as well as canes containing various technological enhancements for defense. Often they do not refer to their devices by "technical" names, but my "magical" ones instead - for instance, a laser blast may be referred to as a "photon incantation."
One thing to note is that while seeing a Technomage flying machine is considered a sign of good luck, seeing a Technomage in person is considered a bad omen by most of the peoples of Mirzha. The exception to this rule is Savanti, where Technomages are just not liked at all. Of course, the reverse is true should any Savanti wizards visit a Technomage site or village...
Update (as of Session 4):
Torvalds turns out to be a giant domed city located deep within Betulia. While
our heroes were there, they learned that the ancient cause of the mistrust
between the Technomages and the Savanti wizards was a genocidal war launched
by Savanti's ancestors against the early Technomages after the fall of the
Gineyres civilization.
Update (as of Session 9):
The legendary Espermech of Magic, Alseides, is buried underneath the city of
Torvalds.
