Catalog of the good life

The air mass sealed off from the rest of the house
smelled male, coolly so, like an aftershave
evoking ice or rivers or wind or waves.
It is isolated from the warmth of the nape of his neck
the ridge of his jaw
his downy cheeks
Even when freshly shaven never perfectly smooth
There is great allure, inexplicably so
to a hint, distantly so, of recent grooming
The same insinuation of a trenchcoat that evokes
rainy London
stylish New York
comfortable Boston
like a scene in a catalog
Amiable man makes pancakes, dressed in his flannel pants
for naturally beautiful lover/girlfriend/wife with bedroom eyes and tousled hair
thoughful poetic type, lives in a world of words, well-read, eloquent, walks on beach
