I have always enjoyed writing poetry, all through elementary school and especially high school and college. Perhaps it is the meter, or the satisfaction that comes from describing a thought or situation so succinctly and elegantly. Whatever the reason, below you will find some of my poetry from the past few years. I hope you enjoy it.
I have been turned to liquid- Not to be confused with the poem titled "Liquid" below, this poem was written when I was very sick and delirious. I guess it could have been a lot worse...
Between- I wrote this in a class...it used to be a lot longer but the point is more vivid when it's short.
Forget- Sometimes your past follows you more vividly than you think it does...
Cuts and Bruises- This is actually not a poem but some song lyrics I wrote...and apparently it's "cute", so that's good.
Liquid- *ahem* I'll let this speak for itself.
Pieces- Same with this one...not too much to say about it...
Earl Grey- Woods Hole (and Cape Cod in general) is a distinct experience in the winter.
What I Want, What I Need- Heh...if you read this and you think "Hmm...that seems too familiar to me..." and you decide you don't like it being here...let me know.
Breaking Bridge- There's a reason we say relationships are built.
Catalog of the good life- This was inspired by two things at once...a very good smell and a J. Crew catalog.
On confusion and being challenged- Here's an old one that I re-discovered and liked. I didn't edit it although I sort of want to...this is the original and I'm keeping it this way. Do you know anyone who makes you feel like this?
Sonnet of Transience- There was this blackboard at Friday Harbor Laboratories, on a hill, where people could write whatever they wanted. This is what I wrote.
Morning - Mmm. I love mornings at Marshfield. I also like seeing my best friends when I haven't for a while.
Honey - I would love to know what you think of this. It's got a lot of my favorite things in it (except the ocean...)
Deepest Blue - This has nothing to do with chess...
IRC - This is about chatting with people on the computer, and how it affects people.
Shark and Seal - I want to make this into a childrens' story...except I think it's too violent.
Sleep - Mmmm...sleep. This is more about snuggling, but still...mmmm.
Sonnet of Sleep - Ah, sleep yet again. This time, though, the condiions are different.
