Sonnet of Transience
Because I knew my heart was yours to keep,
Because you took it gently without fail,
Because I think about you in my sleep,
Because you color days that once were pale.
I profess through words etched in soft stone,
Upon a hilltop under stormy skies,
That from now on you'll never be alone
As long as I am here to hear your sighs.
Soon autumn showers will erase my lines
And chalk will become earth beneath these pines.
